This is my first blog ever. Cool! I'm excited! We'll see how well I keep it up. (That's what she said.)
Last Sunday, I drove down with my mom to Southern California so I could see some old friends and audition for American Idol. We got to Norwalk, CA (a little north of Anaheim) and met up with some friends and some sushi at Chomp in Fullerton! Sooo good. Following that, we went to Downtown Disney and went to the Fossil store I used to work at. I saw some old co-workers and visited. I bought my Mom a watch...yada, yada. Later that night, we went and had a nice BBQ with some very close friends that I hadn't seen since the beginning of January. It was great to see all my friends that day.
We were staying in Arcadia because it was close to the Rose Bowl, where the American Idol (AI) auditions were. Monday, I stayed in the hotel all day working on my Berklee Achievement Scholarship Portfolio which was due on Tuesday. That's all I did on Monday. It sucked...but
I GOT IT DONE!! THANK _____ (noun)!! Don't want to offend anybody...
Here's the link:
Check it out!!
Tuesday was the big day. This was my 5th time auditioning for AI. I got through in Philly one year, then got cut before I even got to see Randy, Paula and Simon. I was pretty pumped. The security guy told my line:
"Ok guys, go to #7"
I thought to myself, "Cool! A lucky number!"
(eh, not so much.)
I sang "Change the World" by Eric Clapton. The woman at the booth I sang at recognized me. I told her my auditioning journey, and she didn't give a sh*t. I sang, they didn't move at all. I knew right then, that I wasn't going through. I was pulled up to talk to the judges. They said we weren't strong enough. Whatever.
This time, I didn't really feel anything. I knew in the back of my head that I was better than that. I'm not trying to toot my own horn, but I knew that I had my parents that loved me and a crew of AWESOME musicians at Berklee that would back me up, regardless of how far I made it on the show.
Wednesday, I met up with more friends in Laguna Beach and had an awesome day. It was beautiful weather, good company, just a great day. I then went to Fullerton (my old stomping grounds) and had a coffee with more old friends.
Today, I woke up, got ready, said goodbye to my Mom's co-worker who was so nice to let us stay in her house for a couple of days, the hit the road. This part of the blog brings us to the present.
My Mom and I were on I-5, heading north, going home. We got to "The Grapevine" which is a mountainous-region of the freeway, just north of LA. We were going fine, then the car breaks down. We then sat in the 100 degree weather in our un-air-conditioned car for about an hour. The tow truck got us, brought us 37 miles back down to Valencia, CA (where Six Flags Magic Mountain is) and now we are sitting in an Acura dealership that has free wi-fi.
There you go. My first blog. Boring, but hey, that was my trip.
I need some sort of sign-off for this blog. I think i'll do this:
Musically yours,
Mario
